OUR HISTORY
Our congregation began in 1920 with a group large enough to fit into a small living room. The group of now 60 men and women started to use the auditorium of the Puyallup Public Library. One year after the first gathering they came up with the name Immanuel Lutheran Church... Immanuel means "God With Us."
In 1921, we were accepted into the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, and July of that same year, the first church building was built.
That building still exists, and it is located at 2nd and 4th Ave. S.E.
In March of 1945, we purchased the 125' x 150' lot on the corner of 7th St SW and West Main, directly across the street from Puyallup High School, and is where the fellowship hall stands now.
Ten years later, we embarked on the expansion of the current sanctuary.
With over 10,000 donated hours, the sanctuary was built.
In May 1966, the Education Wing was created and this is where our current Preschool is located.
We've been moving and changing for over 100 years.
In March 2025, we merged with Our Savior Lutheran Church, in the Summit area, located near Hwy 512 and Canyon Rd. We are excited to see how God moves and changes our community as the Immanuel Campus of OSLC in the years to come.
God has great things in store for Immanuel, and we believe it involves Loving God, Loving the People of this city, and Living Like Jesus. We'd love to have you join us on this journey!
